The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking dynamic and experienced candidates for the role of Vice Chair of Administration (VCA) for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine (ACCM). This role will jointly report to Elaine Gallagher, SVP Physician Services and Practice Plan Administration, and John Fiadjoe, MD, Chair, ACCM (joining CHOP in July 2024).

 

The VCA is responsible for the operations, finances, planning and academic activities of ACCM across all areas of the mission, in association with and under the direction of the Chair. In partnership with and under the direction of the SVP, Physician Services and Practice Plan Administration, the VCA serves as a strategic leader in the physician organization, collaborating with other VCAs, as well as clinical and operational leaders across the enterprise in thought leadership, planning and implementation to develop and enhance an enterprise-wide approach to ACCM services.

Key responsibilities in the areas of Operations, Finance, Strategic Planning, Academic Activities and Organizational Structure include:

  • Ensures departmental clinical operations support the six aims (safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable) of healthcare as defined by the Institute of Medicine 2001 report, as well as assures all clinical programs are in compliance and holds teams accountable with JCAHO, CMS, Department of Health and department and system-wide guidelines.
  • Advises and guides department leaders regarding appropriate, strategic resource allocation, and drives initiatives aimed at increasing revenue, reducing wasteful spending and driving efficiency.
  • Facilitates the design and ongoing refinement of the ACCM strategic plan and drives implementation, aligned with the Enterprise Strategic Plan.
  • Acts as an advocate on behalf of faculty, serves as a liaison for the department with the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) and oversees administrative activities associated with appointments and promotions of faculty in PSOM.
  • Responsible for defining organizational structure for administrative operations of ACCM and advises the Chair in recruitment and retention of key faculty and clinical providers.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree required
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in a hospital and/or healthcare environment
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a health care leadership role
  • Strong relationship-building and creative decision-making skills, along with a data driven mindset
